The wallet is an essential fashion item that every man owns yet for some unknown reason, so many seem to get it wrong. Too often you’ll see a man who’s smartly dressed from head to toe pull out a dodgy-looking wallet that suddenly ruins his entire image. So if you want to be taken seriously as a stylish and sophisticated gent, these are the wallets you need to avoid...

Canvas Wallets

Canvas wallets are so not cool. Unless you are under the age of 15, invest in a leather wallet as no self-respecting man would be seen carrying around one of these.

Patterned Wallets

Unless it’s a chic croc-print leather wallet, patterned wallets are also for teenagers only! Avoid chequers, stripes and camouflage and opt for something a little more grown-up.

Gaudy Logos

Just because you have spent a lot of money on a wallet it doesn’t mean you have to shout it from the rooftops. If the first thing someone notices about your wallet is the large designer logo, they’re likely to think it’s a fake anyway. You should let the quality of the leather speak for itself.

A classic black or brown leather wallet looks great with pretty much anything. You can dress it up with a suit or play it down with jeans. Simple, plain styles never go out of fashion and look just as good aged and a little battered as they do when they’re new and shiny.
