Telling the difference between genuine and fake leather is not always as easy as you might think so watch out. Look to see if there is a label saying that the product is leather. This might seem obvious but it's a good place to start. Purses, wallets and bags made from real leather with usually indicate this on the label. If you are looking at a fake it you will probably find the words 'made from man-made materials'. Don't risk it by buying a product without a label. The next step is to feel the leather. Different leathers will feel different to the touch; some feel rough and others soft and smooth. What gives an item away as being a fake is uniformity of texture. Man-made materials feel very smooth whereas the texture of real leather is not so consistent. This is due to the nature of leather as a natural material. Also check for pores on the surface of the leather. If fake they will be in a regular pattern whereas real ones will be completely random.

Buying leather accessories whether a leather belt, purse, wallet or bag - how do you choose between the different leather finishes...!! Are they are all the same...??

Simple answer NO there are many, many leather Qualities and Finishes.

The best quality leather is Full Grain, this is leather which has not been altered beyond hair removal. Full grain leather is the most genuine type of leather, as it retains all of the original texture and markings of the original hide. It is also tougher and more durable than other types of leather, and as it ages, it gains a beautiful sheen.

The most popular finishes being Oil Tanned: Leather that is tanned using oils to create a very soft, pliable finish or Vegetable Tanned hide tanning which utilizes materials from organic materials such as bark instead of the traditional chemicals. Vegetable tanned leather has greater body and firmness than traditionally-tanned leather.

Unlike other types of leather, full-grain leather uses the whole hide rather than layers of the hide. (In contrast, top-grain leather, another very desirable product uses the top layers of the animal hide.) By using the whole hide makes full-grain leather much thicker, and great for products that require that certain amount of durability.......
