Simple answer NO there are many, many leather Qualities and Finishes.
The best quality leather is Full Grain, this is leather which has not been altered beyond hair removal. Full grain leather is the most genuine type of leather, as it retains all of the original texture and markings of the original hide. It is also tougher and more durable than other types of leather, and as it ages, it gains a beautiful sheen.
The most popular finishes being Oil Tanned: Leather that is tanned using oils to create a very soft, pliable finish or Vegetable Tanned hide tanning which utilizes materials from organic materials such as bark instead of the traditional chemicals. Vegetable tanned leather has greater body and firmness than traditionally-tanned leather.
Unlike
other types of leather, full-grain leather uses the whole hide rather
than layers of the hide. (In contrast, top-grain leather, another very
desirable product uses the top layers of the animal hide.) By using the
whole hide makes full-grain leather much thicker, and great for products
that require that certain amount of durability.......
